Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, so that
there may be food in my house, and thus put me to the test, says the LORD of
hosts; see if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for
you an overflowing blessing. –Malachi 3:10 (NRSV)
God desires to bless us...and we’re
afraid to take him at his word. But God
is persistent and gracious. Read the
whole chapter of Malachi 3 (the entire book is only 3.5 pages). God is not interested in the specific
offerings that the people are supposed to bring...except it shows their
obedience to the law is an indication of the attitude of their hearts toward
God ...and each other.
In verse 5, Malachi talks about the
economics of the people, how workers are cheated out of fair wages, and widows,
orphans, and aliens are mistreated.
The proper tithes and offerings
indicate a concern for God’s ways and a care for the neighbor that God expects.
Talk to God about your tithes & offerings &
what that indicates.
