"But you, O Bethlehem of
Ephrathah, who are one of the little clans of Judah, from you shall come forth
for me one who is to rule in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient
days.
–Micah 5:2 (NRSV)
Today, consider the words of the
beautiful hymn below. Take the time to speak them out loud and take
them into your very soul. This is the
story of God’s gift of our Lord and Savior given through grace to us
forever. Please take this seriously, no
fair skipping over words. The prayer here
is a balm to the soul.
O’ little town of Bethlehem, How still we see
thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep The silent
stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth The
everlasting light.
The hopes and fears of all the years Are met
in thee tonight.
For Christ is born of Mary, And, gathered all
above
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together Proclaim the holy
birth,
And praises sing to God the king,
And peace to all the earth!
How silently, how silently The wondrous gift
is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts The blessing
of His heav’n.
No ear may hear His coming; But, in this
world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him, still
The dear Christ enters in.
O’ holy Child of Bethlehem, Descend to us we
pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in; Be born in us
today.
We hear the Christmas angels
The great glad tidings tell;
Oh, come to us, abide with us Our Lord
Immanuel!
What did the Holy Spirit say to you through
these familiar words? Did he speak words
of truth and great comfort?
Gracious God, enter again into
my heart and bless my soul.
