Wednesday, November 13 – What does loyalty look like?

"No one can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” –Matthew 6:24 (NRSV)
Stores have various ways to gain and keep our loyalty...from excellent customer service and a broad selection of quality merchandise to reward cards and discounts of various kinds.
What keeps you loyal...to a store...or a favorite brand...or a TV show... or a friend...or to God?
Jesus cautions us about our attention to the gods who claim our loyalty.  Chief among those gods of pleasure, comfort, and convenience is the god of money...Mammon (the Greek word for wealth).
Where does your loyalty lie?  Where do you spend your time?  Where do you spend your money?  Those can be indicators of your loyalty.
What portion of your “treasure” and your time does God get?
God of all, create in me a clean & loyal heart...with time, talent, and treasure ready to serve you and yours.
