Tuesday, December 3 – Here am I

And [the angel Gabriel] came to her and said, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." ... 38 Then Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word."

–Luke 1:28, 38 (NRSV)
Messages from God come to us in many different ways:  stories in the Bible, sermons, songs, hymns, life experiences, and through angels—‘messengers’ from God.  Angel comes from the Greek angelos meaning “messenger.”
We usually think of angels as being supernatural creatures with wings, but if an angel is simply a messenger bringing a message from God...well, there could be many ‘angel’ possibilities.
The point though, is not the medium, but the message...and our response!  What ‘messages’ is God ‘speaking’ to you?  How are you responding?  Mary (not immediately!) said, “...let it be...”
